After Bruce Jenner’s revealing 20/20 interview with Diane Sawyer aired on ABC on Friday night, the Kardashian family experienced a weekend of intense scrutiny. And Jenner isn’t the only one opening up about his life-changing gender transition: Kim Kardashian, his step-daughter, sat down with the Today show to comment on her stepfather’s change for the first time.
“He has the biggest heart and I’m really happy for him that he is living his life the way he wants to live it and that he has found inner peace and just pure happiness. That’s what life is about,” Kardashian told Matt Lauer in the interview, which aired today. “I think as long as he is happy and he wants to live his life however he wants to live it, that just makes me happy. I support him 100 percent.”

Kardashian acknowledged that there was an adjustment period for the family, but that they are completely on board with Jenner. “I see reports that say this one doesn’t support him and this one’s over here and my mom feels this way. It’s all really so made up. Is it a hard adjustment? Yes. There’s all things we have learned more recently and it’s an adjustment on how to deal with it. It’s a daily process.”
The family has been talking with people from GLAAD and other organizations for advice on such topics as the proper pronouns to use when referring to Jenner, she said. “There’s so many different things and you just want to be supportive and you just want to be respectful. I think that everything takes time. Bruce wants us to feel as comfortable as possible and take everything at our own pace and we love him for that and respect him for that,” she said.
As for whether Jenner will be able to handle the intense media coverage and scrutiny? Kardashian, who has an idea of what that’s like, thinks Jenner will be just fine. “I think he is prepared for it. He has waited almost 65 years to make this decision whether he’s kept it to himself or not. He’s lived with it.”
During her chat with Lauer, Kardashian also opened up about her struggles to have a second child with husband Kanye West. She revealed that they have been trying for over a year. “I had a tough delivery so I understand what my challenges are but I’m seeing the best doctors and doing everything that I can to make that happen.” Her doctors have recommended that she use a surrogate, but she’s holding out “hope [for] a little bit longer” and will “never say never” when it comes to adoption.
